What is Jaden Timoun?
Jaden Timoun is a Haitian Creole Language Immersion Program for children up to age 12 . In this language immersion program children use their comprehension and critical thinking skills to make connections while having fun learning Haitian Creole. The focus is on creating a space of nurturing and learning centered around Haitian culture and identity. Parents & Caregivers are provided with tools to help engage with language learning outside of the classroom. Jaden Timoun is a culturally responsive program which boasts an array of offerings including interactive classes filled with original songs and dance & fun language learning tools such as puzzles accompanied by informational guides. Activities take place primarily in Haitian Creole in order to provide an authentic and immersive space. Jaden Timoun also recently published a collection of Kreyòl language short stories titled “Verite sou Tanbou nan Jaden Timoun: Rakontay Vèdi” (June 2022).
Class sessions are taught by Jaden Timoun Co-Founders Darnelle Champagne and Wynnie Lamour.
