Briana Philemy, learned to speak Haitian Creole with family, friends and community growing up
in Cap Haitien, Haiti. Through participation in local Kreyol writing/reading initiatives, following
online forums, and learning from community resources Briana found interest in exploring
literature in and about Haitian Creole. Currently living in a city of many languages, New York;
language access became significant in Briana’s self expression and professional development.
With a BA in Sociology and interest in human services and cultural work Briana is looking
forward to expanding interdisciplinary practice by contributing to HCLI ’s mission.
